15 Best CBD Subscriptions

You’ve probably heard of CBD oil by now, but in case you haven’t, it’s a natural oil extracted from the cannabis plant. CBD (short for cannabidiol) is proven to have many health benefits, the most popular being to reduce stress and anxiety, aid with sleep, and relieve pain—all without the psychoactive elements that are typically associated with cannabis. And, yes, it’s legal in all states in the US, no prescription needed! As CBD gains popularity, its subtle soothing effects can be enjoyed in a number of ways: there are tinctures you can drop in your tea or on your tongue, CBD gummies, CBD-infused drinks like sparkling waters and sodas, snacks, CBD lotions and creams for topical benefits, and even dog treats to calm your pup. Hi there, I’m Christen! I’ve been writing with MSA since 2017. I am all sorts of things: a writer, a mother, an outdoors-lover, a low-maintenance self-carer, and general hungry person.

You’ll find me collecting stationery and squirreling away stickers, riding bikes and swimming with my family, creating outfits in colors and silhouettes that make me feel amazing, wearing big earrings, drinking beer and asking my husband to feed me harmonies to sing, taking my vitamins, living for live music, roping everyone into a craft, being human and vulnerable, and celebrating the phenomenon of being alive.

Budzy Box is hands down the best CBD subscription box IMO. High-end luxurious feel and expertly curated, black woman owned small business.

I LOVE Feals! I typically have a really hard time finding a good cbd company but the sugar & kush sounds lovely…thanks for the heads up !

I have tried four of these subscriptions and Hempcrate is by far the best! I’ve found so many of my favorite cbd brands from them and they provide educational material. The owners are also very nice and helpful- they personally respond to emails!

Allay Box is the best value. You get full size products so you can really figure out what works for you. And, the boxes are just beautiful.

I love Feals! I’ve been following them since they launched last year. I’ve tried tons of different brands and it’s the only CBD product that I’ve actually felt a difference with.

I’ve had my eye on Feals! I love their branding! Good to hear they have a great product, too.

Allay Box is fantastic, too!

I personally love hempcrate for their variety every month and how its shipped fast and discreetly. I have a broken wrist and shoulder, plus anxiety and a sleeping disorder. I was on so many meds amd had too many side effects even going blind once from a pill the doctor prescribed. So I had to find a natural alternative and boy has cbd changed my life. Hempcrate only uses certified 3rd party lab tested products so it helps knowing it’s good and clean products.

Another good one is Hempbin.

Beth in Oklahoma

Just don’t bring your CBD items into Disney World. A 69 year old woman is suing Disney because security found a 1 ounce bottle of a labeled CBD oil in her purse, and she was sent to a detention center for 15 hours until her son could bail her out. The bottle stated no THC was in the product, but that didn’t matter. She was subjected to a search with drug sniffing dogs and even had a mugshot taken.

My point is, this article happily mentions it’s legal, but there’s still a lot of misunderstandings about the possession of CBD oil. And like others have said, it’s not properly regulated. When it became legal in OK, shops selling it popped up left and right overnight. I wouldn’t trust most of ‘em.

Here’s a link to an article about the poor woman. Not sure if I’m allowed to post links.

Oh my gosh, Beth, what a horrible and scary experience that must have been for that woman. I appreciate you sharing this perspective so, so much.

I don’t think that kit is available on Birchbox anymore. I tried ordering it when it 1st came out, but it sold out rather quickly if I’m remembering correctly. I do think some of the products are still available individually.

as someone with chronic pain in my experience, some CBD from charlotte’s web, an Epsom salt bath and 2 hours of Outlander can do a lot of good (: hope this helps Jane!

This list doesn’t include some well known subscriptions, including the one I get!

Yes, Carol is right! B, please comment here with any CBD subscriptions you’ve tried and love, and we will consider adding them. We always welcome suggestions—our readers are always full of great intel!

B, I don’t think that this list is meant to be entirely inclusive, or, exclusive (as in, leaving some out for some reason). If you wanted to send in some names, I’m sure they’d be considered for addition. I’d certainly be interested, in having more to choose from!
Whether you want to name the one you use, is optional.

I have health issues that make this something worth looking into, but I have read that there is no regulation of these products, so no way of guaranteeing their quality. It really isn’t sold around my area. Something like this might be a safer bet than pulling something off of Amazon with no idea of who is really selling it. Thanks for giving me something to consider, and I would be interested in a review of any of these (maybe cheapest first

If you go to a dispensary, everything is regulated, tested for both THC and derivative content, farms are regularly inspected, and you can get non THC containing products if you wish, and you can use cannibus if you do decide to. I am beyond grateful to live in a state that was a pioneer in both medical licenses as well as recreational consumption.

There is no regulation and it doesn’t matter whether you get it from a subscription box or Amazon or a local shop, there still won’t be any guarantee of quality, or even that the ingredients are what the label says. It is also possible that one or more ingredients in these or any other supplements interact in a negative way with prescription medications; lack of information may mean the testing hasn’t been done rather than that there’s no interaction.

Bluebird Botanicals also 3rd party tests and puts the results of each batch on their website. They are extremely reputable. I have been using them for 5 plus years and I cannot say enough good things about them. I have never had a reaction or contraindication either.

I use Lazarus Naturals. They are 3rd party independently certified to contain exactly what they say it is.
Reddit CBD subreddit has a wiki with all the companies that test their product via 3rd party independent. They also have links to the results.
Always check before you buy!

Jane, I get the hemp crate and like it. I get the smalller box for now. I had seen some YouTube videos of reviews. Used a code off of one of them. I signed up for 3 months and got a discount for the full three months.
The more expensive box is supposed to be stronger CBD.

Yes! I would like to see any of these boxes reviewed. I’m tempted by the Hemp Crate “Health & Wellness” box.

I got “hit & run” by a drunk uninsured unemployed woman on New Years Day, so I was stressed out dealing with police & insurance & hurting, but didn’t want to take painkillers & muscle relaxants for more than a few weeks so I ordered full spectrum CBD oil per doctors suggestion (splurged on 5,000 mg) & couldn’t stand the taste of raw Hemp. Didn’t feel ANY calming effect since I just swallowed it instead of holding under the tongue for 30 seconds as directed. Tried a few more times with same result (lack of!). My friend teaches at Juvenile Detention & she is even more high strung than me so I asked her to try this CBD oil to confirm my “I bought a fake” theory. She took a dropper & 20 minutes later she was so Hakuna Matata that I gifted her that bottle.

So last month I bought Birchbox CBD kit & liked the square bath bomb. A LOT! In fact, more than any high-end expensive fuzzies. It was actually very “oily” and left my whole body very moisturized. I wish it wasn’t retailing at $16 or I would gladly repurchase it. I can’t say I felt relaxed because of CBD (+a cup of Epsom salt) or from sitting in the tub for 2 hours & watching The Outlander:)
The Vertly lip balm smelled like real roses but not overpowering. It is a bit “waxy”, not smooth like “Fresh” Rose balm from Sephora. It also does not stay on long. Yes, I’ll use it up (it has the screw cap just like the Fresh so it doesn’t open in the purse) but I wouldn’t be buying it again for full price
The CBD night patch did not help me sleep at all & I kept trying to rip it off my wrist. Definitely not worth $12. I was really excited to try a very pricey Saint Jane (because it’s my name) serum & was expecting clearer skin not more breakouts in the morning. I guess the oils didn’t agree with my oily skin. The Standard Dose honestly had no calming effect on me. Maybe because I have a high stress job + teenagers at home? Or maybe redheads need a “horse dose” ?
The muscle rub in Birchbox kit contains capsaicin (= burns like Bengay!) & wasn’t potent enough for tight muscles. The CBD cream from FFF add ons smelled very herbal but worked wonders on football injuries. My most favorite CBD Discovery was $9 Cannuka lip balm sent by Ipsy, which I ended up buying 6 at Ulta on Black Friday so my guys wouldn’t fight over it. Looks like I’ll be buying this lip balm whenever it’s on sale as long as they make it since I use it myself every night before bed. Not for the CBD but it just feels so good & smooth on the lips! Not waxy & sticky like Burt Bees. I’ve tried Cannuka body balm & wasnt super impressed. I’m glad I swapped for a sample of it before buying a full size ($58 even with 30% off is still not cheap & I would have regretted the splurge).
I haven’t tried the remaining 2 samples in Birchbox kit so I can’t say if it worth $42 for me to repurchase.

Since CBD products are pricey & half of what I tried I ended up not liking, I am still unsure about getting on CBD wagon & spending $50-$100+ a month subscribing to any of the CBD boxes mentioned. I would very much like to read honest MSA reviews by “regular women” like me not glowing “high” reviews found on MJ sellers websites. Hope my “review” was useful to someone.

If you go to hempcrate.co, you can get 100 mg bath bombs for $8 each, or 6 for $35!

I get the hempcrate . I have severe arthritis and back injuries from abuse when I was younger. Terrible anxiety, insomnia, phantom pains from so many surgeries and migraines from excessive fluid on my brain. I can’t take pain pills they make me sick. After a month of using the stuff in the hempa the explorer box pro everything has greatly reduced. Now that I have this sinus infection taken care of even my migraines are getting better. I really can’t believe how much it has helped my back and joint pain. I also take the tansai 300mg CBD capsule once a day. My skin even looks better. You can follow what I get on insta lydias_sin. To see what’s in the box. I just got my second one and will post it today.

Jane, thank you so much for your thoughtful mini-revew! Personal experiences with products are always useful, and knowing your background and experience coming into it was great. If you or anyone else wants to see what someone from our team thought of the Birchbox x Standard Dose products you outlined, our reviewer Marne reviewed it, linked below.

We are indeed hoping to review more of the boxes on this list, so if you have any suggestions of specific boxes you’d like to see us explore, please do let me know here in the comments!

There’s a reason CBD has infiltrated virtually every category since hemp became legal in the U.S. The natural oil extracted from the cannabis plant has an array of benefits like improving sleep, reducing stress and anxiety, and relieving pain—without the psychoactive properties. As a result, it’s been infused into products like sparkling water, chocolate bars, tea, and even dog treats.

Whether you’re a CBD connoisseur or a novice looking to hop on the trend, subscription boxes curate a selection of high-quality products and make exploring the robust category much easier. Here we’ve rounded up the best CBD subscription boxes for your needs.

Best CBD Subscription Boxes of 2022

Best Overall: Hemp Crate Co

Why We Chose It: We appreciate Hemp Crate Co’s dedication to transparency and educating its customers about CBD.

See also  Alcohol Extracted CBD Oil

What We Like

  • Education component
  • Range of products
  • Different subscription types
  • Affordable compared to other subscriptions

What We Don’t Like

  • Customers have complained about lack of variety

The founders of Hemp Crate Co aim to provide transparency and education for their customers, two things they believe the CBD industry is lacking. The company does that by partnering with brands that source organic and independently lab-tested products, in addition to including informative brochures and infographics in each subscription box. The educational aspect carries over into Hemp Crate Co’s blog which covers topics like whether or not CBD can help insomnia and why athletes should be using it.

Subscribers select from five different boxes. The affordable Tincture ‘N Treat box includes one CBD treat and one tincture for about $30 a month. The four other boxes start at about $50 a month. Options include the Health & Wellness box with items to help relax and restore the mind and body, and Furry Friends which incluses goodies for cats or dogs. All boxes include full-size products along with on-the-go items that range from sleep sprays and capsules to pet tinctures and bath bombs. These are basically products that work great for the entire household—pets included.

Best Variety: Zatural

Why We Chose It: We love Zatural’s wide range of products along with its focus on all-natural offerings and quality.

What We Like

  • Good variety of products
  • High quality

What We Don’t Like

  • Only offer their brand’s products
  • Can be expensive for some

Founded and formulated by naturopathic doctor Maryann Stanger, Zatural offers something for everyone: hot creams, gummies, honey, and even CBD-infused hand sanitizer. The brand’s subscription boxes are never lacking in interesting products.

The monthly boxes offer a range of subscription types and come in two different strengths, 300mg and 1000mg (which refers to the strength of oil customers receive). Month to month, the 300mg box costs around $80 per month ($107 for 1000mg strength); a three-month subscription costs about $180 ($240 for 1000mg strength); the six-month subscription is approximately $300 ($390 for 1000mg strength); and the yearly is roughly $480 ($618 for 1000mg strength).

Each box includes four to six premium products, along with a T-shirt and sometimes a sticker or two encouraging people to “Go Natural.” Speaking of which, Zatural’s products are all-natural and don’t contain harsh chemicals, fillers, or additives.

Best Curation: Cure Crate

Why We Chose It: We highlighted Cure Crate for its customizable boxes and support of cannabis criminal justice reform.

What We Like

  • Customized boxes
  • Range of products
  • Donates a portion of proceeds to the Last Prisoner Project

What We Don’t Like

  • Product picks can be hit or miss

Cure Crate adamantly believes that CBD isn’t one-size-fits-all and sets out to gather products that meet the needs and tastes of each subscriber. “We’re generally skeptical about anything that claims to work for many different conditions like CBD does (inflammation, pain, sleep, anxiety, depression, skin health, gut health), but the reality is that there are a wide variety of CBD products all with differing effects,” the website reads. What Cure Crate acknowledges is that everyone has different preferences and allergies, and needs different milligram doses. The company wants people to try what works for them.

Customers start out by taking a quiz to determine what type of CBD user they are (curious or connoisseur), how they prefer to take their CBD (tinctures, edibles, or topicals), whether or not they have allergies or dietary restrictions, if they like the taste of hemp, as well as how they hope CBD will help improve their lives (skin health, mood, sleep, etc.).

Customers are encouraged to review the boxes and give feedback as they go to ensure each box is curated to their liking. Boxes are about $60 a month (each is said to consist of upwards of about $130 worth of products) and include four to five full-size items. To top it off, Cure Crate also supports the Last Prisoner Project through its proceeds, a non-profit organization dedicated to cannabis criminal justice reform.

Best for an Elevated Experience: Budzy Box

Why We Chose It: We appreciate Budzy Box’s “for women by women” brand ethos and its elevated CBD offerings.

What We Like

  • Women, POC-led business
  • Elevated and unique CBD offerings
  • Research-backed products

What We Don’t Like

  • Can be expensive

Budzy Box is all about premium CBD for millennial women and offers up a well-rounded range of products that explore a variety of categories, from fashion to lifestyle.

It has you covered from the bathroom (with CBD infused face masks and balms) to the bedroom (with CBD infused massage oil and candles) all the way to the kitchen (with products like CBD infused pancake mix and sparkling water). The company believes “science is sexy” and makes sure to include products backed by research.

At around $59 per month, customers will also receive nuggets of CBD knowledge with each box in order to “break down stereotypes and embrace a life infused with CBD.” Through its elevated offerings, the brand hopes to dispel stigmas and raise standards by showcasing that CBD is beloved by both stoners and stylish boss women alike. The company also sells merch by way of hoodies that read “Budzy” and another encouraging wearers to “Inhale the good sh*t…exhale the bullsh*t.” Now that’s messaging we can get behind.

Best for Wellness: AllayBox

Why We Chose It: On top of being aesthetically pleasing, we love AllayBox’s mission and commitment to giving back.

What We Like

  • Range of products
  • Thoroughly vetted artisan-crafted brands
  • Gives back to various non-profits

What We Don’t Like

Based in Philadelphia, AllayBox is an online wellness boutique with a mission “to improve people’s health and wellness while doing impactful social good.” It achieves that with its curated, aesthetically pleasing, vetted CBD products, in addition to its partnerships with various non-profit organizations like Project Home, Last Prisoner Project, and World Health Organization.

The boxes come quarterly (for around $75) and include seasonal products made by artisans and tested by its employees. “It can be hard to know how to get the most value for your money,” the website explains. “We do the work for you by testing products and reviewing the cost per mg of CBD, the type of CBD (isolate, full-spectrum, broad-spectrum), and digging into what effect they tend to produce.”

Each subscription includes five products—from face oils and muscle recovery creams to salted caramels. If you don’t like any of the products after trying them out, you can send them back for free in exchange for store credit to spend in AllayBox’s online shop filled with over 50 products.

Overall, we tried to select companies with a wide and robust variety of products that come from reputable and ethical brands and that offer unique experiences. We love the personalization that Cure Crate offers customers along with its commitment to giving back, while AllayBox’s wellness angle and seasonally-themed boxes are distinctive. Budzy Box stands out for its attempt to elevate the CBD experience for its customers, and Zatural made our list for its wide selection of all-natural CBD products. Hemp Crate Co took home our top spot for offering transparency, affordability, and education to customers, as well as a variety of subscription types.

What Are CBD Subscription Boxes?

CBD subscription boxes are monthly, bimonthly, or quarterly subscriptions with companies that deliver a selection of CBD-infused products to customers. What you receive depends on the company or specific subscription chosen. You can sign up for yourself or send it to a loved one.

What Is Included in a CBD Subscription Box?

Typically, a subscription box includes a range of different CBD products—from edibles to tinctures to bath bombs. Some companies allow you to add on or purchase specific items for an extra cost. The specific types of CBD products subscribers receive are usually random and a surprise.

How Much Do CBD Subscription Boxes Cost?

The cost can vary depending on the company, the number of products received, as well as the quality. The ones we’ve selected range from about $30 a month to roughly $59 a month. Most brands also offer a discount for longer subscriptions.

How We Chose the Best CBD Subscription Boxes

We considered eight different subscription boxes, including Reason to Smile, which we didn’t include because of its limited product offerings.

We selected the best CBD subscriptions based on price, variety of products, and online reviews. Customization—like add-ons or the option to select personalized subscriptions—was also considered, along with a commitment to giving back, good customer service, and dedication to educating the consumer.
